Community Engagement Research Program: Invitation to Submit Abstracts

UGA researchers are invited to submit abstracts on translational research and program experiences at the 2017 Atlanta Clinical and Translational Science Institute’s Community Engagement and Research Forum, “Understanding Resilience in Underserved Communities; From Research to Reality.”

UGA researchers are invited to submit abstracts on translational research and program experiences at the 2017 Atlanta Clinical and Translational Science Institute’s Community Engagement and Research Forum, “Understanding Resilience in Underserved Communities; From Research to Reality.” The forum will be held Thursday, April 27  and Friday, April 28 at Atlanta Technical College in Atlanta.

The Atlanta Clinical and Translational Science Institute (ACTSI) is an inter-institutional collaboration focused on accelerating the translation of science and research discoveries to application at the community level towards advancing population health.

The goal of this year’s forum is to provide participants with the tools required to develop and sustain successful and mutually beneficial, community-university research partnerships that improve health in Metro Atlanta and beyond. The Forum will provide participants with opportunities to: 1) engage with and learn from academic researchers and public, private and community organizations advancing community and population health; 2) participate in training sessions and workshops, highlighting “Best Practices” in community-engagement and research translation and; 3) network with public, private and community organizations towards collaborative translational research and practice partnership development.

Abstract Themes
All evidenced -based research, interventions and or programs (that are not research) are welcomed to submit abstracts and may be related, but not limited to:
Behavioral health and wellness (including substance use, smoking, violence prevention, depression and mental health)
Cancer and cancer prevention

Clinical Research and Practice
Diabetes
Environmental issues
Heart health
Health promotion and disease prevention (including wellness, stress management, exercise, obesity, health education, and other topics)
Immunization
Laboratory/Bench Research with Implications for Community Health Improvement
Lung health
Oral Health

Reproductive health

Abstract submission is open to all professionals, students, and community members who have interested or who are working in fields that include, but are not limited to:
Allied health professionals
Academic Researchers
Basic scientists
Behavioral scientists
Clinicians
Community-based organizations
Faith-based organizations
Students
Local/state/federal government representatives
Public health practitioners

Abstract Preparation and Submission
All abstracts should be limited to 250 words in length (not including titles or headings). Please include all author names, degrees, and affiliations. Restrict subheadings to the following: Research (Background, Methods, Results, Conclusion) or Program (Purpose, Description, Conclusion).

Abstracts must be submitted as a Microsoft Word document to Dr. Winifred Thompson by February 10, 2017. Student affiliations should include their school and their degree candidacy. Please contact Dr. Thompson by email address if you have not received an acceptance of receipt within seven working days after the final submission date. PLEASE NOTE: Only original work will be accepted. Also, it is expected that presenters accepted for poster presentation will register for the Forum.
