UGA’s Office of Academic Special Programs is seeking science and engineering graduate students and professionals to serve as judges for the 42^nd Georgia Junior Science & Humanities Symposium (GJSHS).

Sponsored in conjunction with the research programs of the U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force, GJSHS provides high school students with the unique opportunity to prepare a scientific paper to present in front of a panel of judges and their peers in the format of an academic, scientific conference. GJSHS is a statewide affiliate of the National Junior Science & Humanities Symposium.

GJSHS judges have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with significant research/professional experience in a scientific field.

Judges may serve in any or all of the following capacities:

1. Paper Reader (January 17-31, on your own time) – Readers will review and score research papers to help determine which students will be invited to compete at GJSHS.
2. Sunday Poster Judge (February 26, 7 – 9 pm) – Poster Judges will evaluate a select group of students’ poster presentations and interview the students about their work.
3. Monday Judge (February 27, 8 am – 3 pm) – Monday Judges will work in panels to evaluate students’ oral presentations and interview the students about their work.
4. Tuesday Judge (February 28, 8 am – 3 pm) – Tuesday Judges will evaluate all finalists’ oral presentations and interview the students about their work.

Judges are needed in all capacities, but the greatest needs are for Paper Readers and Monday (Feb. 27) Judges, as well as those with expertise in Medicine & Health Science or Environmental Science.
