Announcements Find Funding Foundation Funding Opportunities

The Beckman Young Investigator (BYI) Program provides research support to the most promising young faculty members in the early stages of their academic careers in the chemical and life sciences, particularly to foster the invention of methods, instruments and materials that will open up new avenues of research in science.

Projects proposed for the BYI program should be truly innovative, high-risk, and show promise for contributing to significant advances in chemistry and the life sciences. They should represent a departure from current research directions rather than an extension or expansion of existing programs. Proposed research that cuts across traditional boundaries of scientific disciplines is encouraged. Proposals that open new avenues of research in chemistry and life sciences by fostering the invention of methods, instruments and materials will be given additional consideration.

  • The BYI program funds promising young scientists early in their careers who have not yet received a major award from another organization. Proposals that already have substantial funding will not be considered for the BYI award (see eligibility for more information).
  • Projects are normally funded for a period of four years. Grants are in the range of $600,000 over the term of the project, contingent upon demonstrated progress after the second year of the award.
  • The Foundation does not provide for overhead or for indirect costs.

LOI Deadline: August 4, 2020

This funding partnership between the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) supports projects to develop and advance knowledge concerning dynamic language infrastructure in the context of endangered human languages—languages that are both understudied and at risk of falling out of use. Made urgent by the imminent loss of roughly half of the approximately 7000 currently used languages, this effort aims to exploit advances in information technology to build computational infrastructure for endangered language research. The program supports projects that contribute to data management and archiving, and to the development of the next generation of researchers. Funding can support fieldwork and other activities relevant to the digital recording, documentation and analysis, and archiving of endangered language data, including the preparation of lexicons, grammars, text samples, and databases. Funding will be available in the form of one- to three-year senior research grants, fellowships from six to twelve months, and conference proposals.

Deadline: September 15, 2020

Boehringer Ingelheim invites scientists to submit proposals containing an in vivo testable hypothesis using its oral BCL6 degrader.

Boehringer Ingelheim will share the unprecedented, potent and selective orally bioavailable BCL6 degrader BI-1136 which is suited for both in vitro and in vivo experiments for collaborative research on novel disease indications. BI-1136 potently degrades human and mouse BCL6. Funding of up to 200.000 € will be available upon request and shall be outlined in the application.

Deadline: July 31, 2019, 23:59 pm PST

The purpose of this initiative is to support projects which exploit genome or epigenome editing to functionally validate and characterize genes or variants involved in substance use disorder-relevant phenotypes. It is expected that any genetic resources generated will be made broadly available to the scientific community to enable investigation of the relevant neurobiological mechanisms involved and provide critical foundational knowledge for the development of future prevention, diagnostic, and therapeutic strategies. The number of awards is contingent upon NIH appropriations and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications. Application budgets may not exceed $125,000 per year in direct costs for the R21 phase. Applications may not exceed $250,000 per year in direct costs for the R33 phase.

Letter of intent deadline: 30 days prior to application deadline

Application deadline: June 24, 2019, December 18, 2019, June 24, 2020, December 18, 2020, June 24, 2021, December 17, 2021

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) encourages the submission of exploratory/developmental research grant (R21) applications for cancer epidemiologic research. The overarching goal is to provide support to promote the early and conceptual stages of research efforts on novel scientific ideas that have the potential to substantially advance population-based cancer research, such as improving data collection methods, developing and validating methods of exposures and biological effects, such as epigenetics and metabolomics, and their application in population-based research, functional assessment of genetic variants, and assessing recruitment methods for understudied populations. The number of awards is contingent upon NIH appropriations and the submission of a sufficient number of meritorious applications. The combined budget for direct costs for the two-year project period may not exceed $275,000. No more than $200,000 may be requested in a single year.

Deadline: June 7, 2019; October 8, 2019; June 8, 2020; October 8, 2020; June 8, 2021; October 8, 2021

The Division of Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences (AGS) awards Postdoctoral Research Fellowships (PRF) to highly qualified early career investigators to carry out an independent research program. The research plan of each Fellowship must address scientific questions within the scope of AGS disciplines. The program supports researchers for a period of up to 2 years with Fellowships that can be taken to the institution of their choice. The program is intended to recognize beginning investigators of significant potential and provide them with experience in research that will broaden perspectives, facilitate interdisciplinary interactions and help establish them in leadership positions within the Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences community. Fellowships are awards to individuals, not institutions, and are administered by the Fellows.

Evidence for Action (E4A), a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), funds research that expands the evidence needed to build a Culture of Health. A Culture of Health is broadly defined as one in which good health and well-being flourish across geographic, demographic, and social sectors; public and private decision-making is guided by the goal of fostering equitable communities; and everyone has the opportunity to make choices that lead to healthy lifestyles. RWJF’s Culture of Health Action Framework, which was developed to catalyze a national movement toward improved health, well-being, and equity, guides E4A’s program strategy.

Informational Webinar: April 12, 2019
