SURA: LASSO Summer Opportunities

LASSO has several paid opportunities available this summer for students in their junior or senior year, graduate students, and teachers.

The Laboratory Support Services and Operations (LASSO) contract operates and maintains a diverse set of laboratories, development shops, and test facilities at Kennedy Space Center. Southeastern Universities Research Association and its member universities partner with AECOM on the LASSO contract to involve academic researchers, subject matter experts, and students in KSC’s scientific research and engineering activities. LASSO has several paid opportunities available this summer for students in their junior or senior year, graduate students, and teachers. These positions are open to all qualified applicants, including those new to NASA research, who are U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents.

Open Summer Positions:

Chemistry Laboratory Technician: Learn cutting edge analytical chemistry techniques by assisting in writing, developing, and validating new preventative maintenance procedures for analytical chemistry instrumentation. Learn Lean Six Sigma and 5s techniques and chemical hygiene while organizing and cleaning the laboratory, glassware, and equipment. Learn ISO9001, AS9100, and NASA calibration requirements while assisting in collecting equipment to send out for calibration. Apply 5s techniques for ordering and stocking laboratory supplies. Escort vendors and learn from their expertise while performing corrective and preventative maintenance on science and engineering equipment and instrumentation. Perform related duties as required. Laboratory experience, through coursework or jobs, required.

Physics Laboratory Technician: Learn cutting edge science and engineering instrumentation by assisting in writing, developing, and validating new preventative maintenance procedures for science and engineering instrumentation. Learn Lean Six Sigma and 5s techniques and chemical hygiene while organizing and cleaning the laboratory, glassware, and equipment. Learn ISO9001, AS9100, and NASA calibration requirements while assisting in collecting equipment to send out for calibration. Apply 5s techniques for ordering and stocking laboratory supplies. Engineering Technician: Learn cutting edge science and engineering techniques by assisting in writing, developing, and validating new preventative maintenance procedures and service contracts for science and engineering instrumentation. Learn Lean Six Sigma and 5s techniques and chemical hygiene while organizing and cleaning the laboratory, glassware, and equipment. Escort vendors and learn from their expertise while performing corrective and preventative maintenance on science and engineering equipment and instrumentation.

Term: Approximately eight to ten weeks.

Deliverables: Each selected assistant/technician will be required to submit a short report at the end of their internship describing their activities and accomplishments.
