An additional 13 floating licenses for the Geneious sequence analysis platform are now available to UGA researchers, thanks to the Institute of Bioinformatics. This makes a total of 28 licenses, up from 15, which should relieve pressure in accessing the software.

The additional licenses will be available the week of March 30. For information on how to access the Geneious license server, please reference: https://qbcg.uga.edu/geneious-installation/

The Office of Research Support Services has rolled out online service centers for the Georgia Genomics Facility (GGF) and the Georgia Electron Microscopy (GEM) core facility.

Georgia Genomics Facility

iLabs will be primarily used for streamlined billing for GGF.  All orders should still go directly to GGF through their LIMS system as they have for the last several years.

Georgia Electron Microscopy

Georgia Electron Microscopy (GEM), formerly known as Center for Advanced Ultrastructural Research (CAUR), is now a core facility with the Office for the VP of Research.  As part of that transition, the electron microscopes from Plant Biology and the College of Veterinary Medicine merged with CAUR to form GEM.  GEM will stay housed in the CAUR space and continue to operate as before.  With the roll out of iLabs, GEM is now using iLab for scheduling, billing and project requests. All invoicing will be generated from the iLabs system and will be sent electronically to departmental administrators.

The login screen will be available on the webpage of any core facility or service center using iLab. New users must register.

PIs, lab members and departmental administrators also may register for an iLab account on the ORSS website. Registration is required only one time to use iLab for all core facilities and service centers for which it is available.

The Office of Research Support Services will launch iLab Solutions, a web-based solution, in early August to streamline  equipment scheduling and product ordering, as well as billing and invoicing for UGA core facilities and service centers.

The first core facility to use iLab Solutions for scheduling is CTEGD Flow Cytometry. Subsequently, the online solution will be implemented for the UGA Glass Blowing Shop, Coverdell Stockroom Central Research Stories and Campus Scientific Stores.

The login screen will be available on the webpage for any core facility or service center using iLab.

PIs, lab members and departmental administrators may register for an iLab account. Registration is required only one time to use iLab for all core facilities and service centers for which it is available.

The Office of Research Services is pleased to announce the creation of the UGA Oligo-Core, a web portal for UGA faculty, staff, and students to order oligos  — short strands of DNA called oligonucleotides — for delivery to UGA.  The portal was developed in cooperation with Integrated DNA Technologies (IDT), manufacturer of oligo products.

The major benefit of this UGA portal is to provide a single, consolidated order to be shipped daily from IDT to UGA.  This consolidated order will eliminate shipping costs on small-volume oligo orders (with a few exceptions on special items).   Alex Wunderlich, in the Coverdell Stockroom, will track each UGA order to assure it is delivered to the correct drop-off location on campus.

  • If you have specific IDT questions on Oligos, other IDT products, or website issues, contact Chad Locklear clocklear@idtdna.com the IDT sales representative for UGA.
  • If you have pricing questions, need a copy of an invoice, or questions about the status of your order, contact Alex Wunderlich freezer@uga.edu or 542-9878
