Environmental Safety Training
Environmental Safety Division (ESD) strives to provide a safe working environment for UGA employees, students and visitors through education, training, on-site audits, meetings, consultations, and recommendations. The Environmental Safety Division works in collaboration with the Office of Research Safety (ORS), a division of the Office of Research Integrity and Safety, to provide comprehensive training.
Mandatory Training
For those working with laboratory chemicals:
- Chemical Specific Right-to-Know Annual Training
- Responsible Management of Hazardous Waste Annual Training (Available through PEP)
- Chematix training; chemical inventory and waste processing
For those working with radioactive materials:
- Certified Radiation Worker Training (Available through PEP)
- Certified Advanced Radiation Worker Training (administered by ORS)
At least one designated per approved radiation permit
- Non-medical x-ray safety training (administered by ORS)
For those working with lasers:
- Laser Safety Training (administered through ORS)
Additional Training Requirements
For those using respirators:
- Respiratory Protection Training (through the AALAS Learning Library)
Additional Training Opportunities
- Fire Extinguisher and Fire Safety training available upon request
- Hazardous material DOT shipping information and requirements
