Graduate Research Support: UGA BSRA Scholars

Anticipated Available Support:

  • FY24: $140K in graduate stipend support for M.S. and Ph.D. students with tuition waivers, equivalent to one M.S. and four Ph.D. stipends.
  • FY25-FY30: $420K/year in graduate stipend support for M.S. and Ph.D. students with tuition waivers, equivalent to three M.S. and 12 Ph.D. stipends each year.

Description: Starting in FY23, UGARI leadership will put out a call for proposals to UGA faculty every two years, indicating the availability of graduate stipend funding in support of collaborative research between UGA faculty and SRNL scientists. During any year that a graduate student is supported with UGARI funds (or matching funds), they will be designated as a UGA BSRA Scholar.  Any matching funding used to secure UGARI graduate stipend support must charge tuition to the external sponsor to enable RIAS return to UGARI. Proposals can request no more than two years of graduate stipend support in each funding cycle.

Priority for allocation of UGA BSRA Scholar support:

Category 1 (High Priority): Clear evidence that award would support collaborative research efforts involving both UGA faculty and SRNL scientists (can be collection of pilot data or contributions to ongoing research); and evidence of existing matching funding for student stipends in out years in support of the collaborative research.

Category 2 (Medium Priority): Clear evidence that award would support collaborative research efforts involving both UGA faculty and SRNL scientists; and evidence of collaborative grants under consideration by sponsors that would secure matching funding for student stipends in out years in support of the collaborative research.

Category 3 (Low Priority): Clear evidence that award would support collaborative research efforts involving both UGA faculty and SRNL scientists to generate pilot data for use in subsequent grant proposals to external sponsors that will include matching funding for student stipends in out years in support of the collaborative research.

Application: Applications are expected to open in Fall 2022. For information contact Alex Aspley at alexaspley1@uga.edu.
