Federal Funding Updates

This page is intended to keep you informed of the latest developments to federal and federal flow-through sponsored funding. Check back here for news about how these developments affect you and your sponsored projects.

Terminations, Stop Work Orders, Reductions in Scope

Notices of termination include specific project identifiers (PI Name, Project Title, Award Number), explicit statements that the project is being terminated, a reason/basis for the termination, and an effective date.

If you receive a Termination or Stop Work Order, Notice of Suspension, Reduction of Scope, or related communication from your sponsor:

  • Please immediately forward to sponprog@uga.edu
  • Stop working on the project and do not incur any additional expenses
  • Cancel open purchase orders for supplies, services or equipment
  • Do not take any action on outbound subrecipients. Once the communication is routed to SPA, SPA will review the termination notice, create the early termination modification in the Grants Portal, notify all outbound subrecipients, and contact PI/Unit regarding next steps and closeout.

If you are uncertain if something is a notice of termination, please forward it to sponprog@uga.edu for our review.

3/21/25: Federal Funding Update

UGA Research Community,

We are currently experiencing a unique situation in which awards and related communications are being sent to various individuals across the institution. In some cases, Principal Investigators (PIs) and unit research administrators receive award notifications directly. However, as the Authorized Organizational Official, SPA is not consistently included in these communications. Your assistance is essential to ensure all sponsored projects are correctly managed and compliant with institutional and sponsor requirements.

Please be diligent in monitoring your incoming emails.  If you receive award notifications and award communications, please forward them to SPA immediately.  Given the growing volume of these communications, SPA has adjusted our processes.  Please utilize the instructions below for routing all future awards and award communications to SPA.  Please no longer route these directly to Jill Tincher and Cathy Cuppett.

  • Notices of termination include: specific project identifiers (PI Name, Project Title, Award Number); explicitly state the project is being terminated; provides a reason/basis for the termination; and identifies an effective date. If you receive any notices of termination, please immediately forward the communication to sponprog@uga.edu. Additionally, please stop working on the project, do not incur any additional expenses, and cancel open purchase orders for supplies, services or equipment. Please do not take any action on outbound subrecipients. Once the communication is routed to SPA, SPA will review the termination notice, create the early termination modification in the Grants Portal, notify all outbound subrecipients, and contact PI/Unit regarding next steps and closeout.
  • If you are uncertain if something is a notice of termination, please forward it to sponprog@uga.edu for our review.
  • Additionally, if you receive requests to reduce/adjust scope, make certifications and/or acknowledge receipt, please forward those emails to sponprog@uga.edu. SPA needs to review these emails before the university responds.

If you have any questions, please contact Jill Tincher (jill.tincher@uga.edu) and Cathy Cuppett (cathya15@uga.edu.

Thank you for your partnership and assistance.

Sincerely,

Jill Frazier Tincher, MBA, CRA
