Associate professor Brian Schwartz and professor Wayne Hanna are UGA turfgrass breeders at the Tifton campus. Their newest release, TifTuf® bermudagrass, is the new industry standard for drought and wear resistance. Water conservation is an important consideration today, and TifTuf® uses 30-40% less water than most bermudagrass cultivars while maintaining better turf quality. Forty-five companies are producing TifTuf® for sale-as far west as Hawaii and California, throughout the southern U.S. and as far north as Maryland-and sales are drastically increasing.
