Detailed instructions on how to use the online disclosure tool are available.
Innovation Gateway will:
- Evaluate the commercial potential of the invention in conjunction with the inventors, consultants, and patent counsel. The typical time frame for a complete invention evaluation is 60 days from receipt of a new invention disclosure. Innovation Gateway will contact inventors regarding a recommended course of action within 30 days of completing the evaluation. Inventions that meet the requirements for receiving intellectual property protection are submitted for patent, trademark, copyright or plant variety protection.
- Identify companies that are most likely to be successful in bringing the technology to the marketplace. Inventors will meet with interested parties.
- Negotiate a license with the interested company. Licensing income is shared among the inventors, their research program, their department and the UGA Research Foundation (UGARF) according to The University of Georgia Intellectual Property Policy. UGARF’s share of licensing income is used to support research at the University of Georgia.
