Two alumni of the UGA Lamar Dodd School of Art have visually brought coronavirus to life through a 3D illustration that’s been seen in most news sources across the globe. Alissa Eckert (’04) and Dan Higgins (’93), both medical illustrators for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, have meticulously studied the structure of the virus, using research from the World Protein Data Bank, as well as collaborating with health communicators and scientists with expertise in viral diseases. Their 3D illustration has appeared in several major news outlets, including The New York Times, U.S. News & World Report, and The Washington Post, to name a few.
