The University of Georgia kicked off the 2024-25 academic year with new faculty and graduate student orientations in August.
At the beginning of the month, UGA welcomed more than 200 new faculty members and over 700 new graduate students at the two events, which featured various units from across campus.
The two-day New Faculty Orientation introduced the university’s newest researchers and instructors to UGA traditions, legends, and lingo, and also included a student-led panel discussing their learning experiences.
On Aug. 9, new faculty learned about valuable programs and organizations UGA offers at the orientation’s resource fair. About 30 organizations and vendors were represented, including the Office of Experiential Learning, Office of Global Engagement, Non-Tenure-Track Faculty Learning Community, UGA Mentor Program, and many others.
At the fair, Office of Research (OoR) staff also spoke with new faculty about the ways OoR can help them get their research programs started, such as in developing and submitting sponsored research proposals, commercializing their work, ensuring compliance with research-related policies, and more.
At the Graduate Student Orientation and Welcome Fair on Aug. 13, Office of Research Communications staff connected with attendees about helping them achieve their research goals while also giving away a selection of OoR-branded swag . Around 35 vendors participated in the Classic Center event, including the UGA Career Center, UGA Libraries, Well-Being Resources, the Graduate Student Association, and more.
