Many of the activities of this program are mandated by Georgia state law and controlled by policies established by the Radiation Research Safety Committee.<\/p>\n<p>The office also\u00a0<span style=\"margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">collaborates closely with UGA\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/esd.uga.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Environmental Safety Division<\/a> on issues such as environmental safety and compliance, hazardous waste management, fire safety, occupational health and safety, and other related\u00a0<\/span>areas.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<h2>Radiation Research Safety Committee<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<p>The Radiation Research Safety Committee (RRSC) guides the development and implementation of campus-wide Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies that reduce safety, health, and environmental risks associated with research, teaching, and public service laboratories, as well as other related work areas where chemical or physical hazards exist.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2><span style=\"color: inherit; font-size: 30px;\">Radiation Safety Policies and Procedures<\/span><\/h2>\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/research.uga.edu\/safety\/radiation\/manual\/\">Radiation Safety Manual<\/a> outlines prudent laboratory practices, university policies, and regulatory requirements for working safely in laboratories with radioactive materials and radiation-producing equipment at UGA facilities.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<header class=\"entry-header has-text-align-center header-footer-group\">\n<div class=\"entry-header-inner\">\n<h2 class=\"page-title\">Radiation Safety Training<\/h2>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Certified Radiation Worker<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"single-content\">\n<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid\">\n<div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container vc_col-sm-12\">\n<div class=\"vc_column-inner\">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<p><strong>All Certified Radiation Workers (RW) must receive appropriate training from a Certified Advanced Radiation Worker (ARW).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An Advanced Radiation Worker (ARW) is an individual who, through appropriate training and experience, is qualified and authorized to work independently with radiation sources and to supervise such use by others (e.g., laboratory radiation workers\/technicians). You must receive documented training through the ARW to be designated an RW.<\/p>\n<p>Requirements for Certification as an approved Radiation Worker (RW)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Document training through the completion of a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/research.uga.edu\/docs\/units\/safety\/UGA-Radiation-Worker-Certificate.pdf\">UGA Radiation Worker Certificate<\/a>.<br \/>\nKeep a copy of this certificate in your laboratory for future reference.<br \/>\nReturn a copy of the certificate to the\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:radiation-safety@uga.edu\">Radiation Safety Officer<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/research.uga.edu\/safety\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/56\/2026\/01\/Non-Rad-worker-agreement-form.pdf\">Non-Radiation Worker Agreement Form<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Complete online\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pep.uga.edu\/\">Radiation Refresher Annual Training<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Certified Advanced Radiation Worker<\/h3>\n<p><strong>At least one Advanced Radiation Worker is required for each Radiation Permit.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An Advanced Radiation Worker is an individual who, through appropriate training and experience, is qualified and authorized to work independently with radiation sources and to supervise such use by others (e.g., laboratory radiation workers\/technicians). Certification is obtained by completing four live training modules and passing the related exams. A minimum score of 70% is required on each exam. Trainees who fail to pass an exam may retake the exam once. If they do not pass the exam on the second try, the training module must be repeated. Certification is awarded to trainees who successfully pass all four exams.
