For serious injury, please seek medical treatment immediately.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\n<h2>Emergency Information<\/h2>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"font-size: 24px;\">I am injured. What do I do?<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><b>FIRST! <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Follow your Lab\/Facility-Specific Emergency Response Procedure for the type of injury sustained.&nbsp; There are some instances where early decontamination steps are imperative.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For serious injuries, seek <\/span><b>MEDICAL ATTENTION <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">immediately. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You do not need authorization<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. If you need to obtain emergency transport, call <\/span><b>911.&nbsp;<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For minor injuries, you may have someone drive you for treatment (if you are not contaminated). <\/span><b>DO NOT <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">drive yourself.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Seek Treatment at these local health care facilities:\n<ul>\n<li>For serious injuries:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center<\/strong><br \/>\n1199 Prince Avenue<\/li>\n<li><strong>St. Mary&#8217;s Trinity Health<br \/>\n<\/strong>1230 Baxter Street<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>For minor injuries:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Piedmont Occupational Medicine<br \/>\n<\/strong>485 Highway 29 North<\/li>\n<li><strong>University Health Center <\/strong>(Students Only)<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>55 Carlton Street<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>For Non-Human Primate related injuries:\n<ul>\n<li>For serious injuries call 911 or immediately go to the closest hospital emergency room.<\/li>\n<li>For minor injuries during business hours, all students and employees promptly seek treatment at the University Health Center.<\/li>\n<li>For minor injuries after hours, promptly go to the closest hospital.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\n<h3>What types of injuries are considered serious emergencies?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Any physical injury causing a significant wound, loss of blood, loss of consciousness, head injury, or any other serious bodily harm<\/li>\n<li>Any systemic allergic reaction that results in hives, or affects breathing in any way<\/li>\n<li>Any potential exposure to biohazards, including exposure to Other Potential Infectious Materials (OPIM), as might occur from a contaminated needle stick (even if person is assumed healthy)<\/li>\n<li>Any potential exposure to hazardous chemicals or radiation\/radioisotopes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1775737282488{border-top-width: 2px !important;border-right-width: 2px !important;border-bottom-width: 2px !important;border-left-width: 2px !important;padding-top: 5px !important;padding-right: 5px !important;padding-bottom: 5px !important;padding-left: 5px !important;background-color: #BA0C2F !important;border-left-style: initial !important;border-right-style: initial !important;border-top-style: initial !important;border-bottom-style: initial !important;border-radius: 1px !important;border-color: #000000 !important;}&#8221;]<span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">If you sustain a <strong>potential biohazard exposure<\/strong>, please contact the UGA Office of Biosafety on the BAT Phone at 706-542-5300, so that we can attempt to prioritize your treatment with the Emergency Room.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">If you sustain <strong>a potential chemical or radiation exposure<\/strong>, pleases contact the UGA Office of Research Safety on the PREHS phone at 706-542-5561, so that we can prioritize your treatment with the Emergency Room.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">For individuals who have sustained a nonhuman primate exposure, HIV exposure or exposure to retro- or lentiviral vectors, you <strong>MUST<\/strong> fill your prescriptions immediately. If you have any issues, please contact the Office of Biosafety BAT phone at 706-542-5300.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\n<h3>Do I have to follow up with anyone after an emergency incident?<\/h3>\n<p>YES! Please report any emergency incident resulting in injury, even minor injury, to the Research Occupational Health Nurse at <a href=\"mailto:occhealth@uga.edu\">occhealth@uga.edu<\/a>. Also, please report any clean needle sticks, even though they do not require medical treatment. It is important that we track these incidents.<\/p>\n<h3>What are my responsibilities as a supervisor if one of my employees is injured?<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Assure that your employee FIRST seeks appropriate medical attention.<\/strong> You must then follow up with the appropriate processing for any relevant workers\u2019 compensation claims.
