University of Georgia research generates some spectacular imagery (just check out our Instagram!), and many of those images are produced directly from the research itself.

Innovation Gateway, UGA’s tech transfer and commercialization office, has begun marketing some of those images to outside companies for a variety of uses. Currently Gateway offers more than 200 images for license through its technology portal, with plans to expand that catalog into the thousands.

“Our motivation behind this program goes beyond the generation of licensing revenue,” said Gennaro Gama, Gateway’s licensing manager who runs the image program. “Our primary purpose is to engage UGA researchers who do not typically develop patentable materials into the technology transfer process. Moreover, through partnerships with local businesses, this program gives us the opportunity to develop products that illustrate the visual beauty of science, while also promoting local economic development.”
