Shoring up the species barrier
University of Georgia researchers from a wide range of disciplines study the phenomenon of zoonotic spillover, or the crossing of infectious pathogens from one species to another. COVID-19 is one example of such a spillover that affected humans, as are HIV/AIDS, rabies, bubonic plague, several types of flu and many other disease-causing agents.
