The R/V Savannah is a 104-foot vessel operated by the University of Georgia’s Skidaway Institute of Oceanography. A member of the University National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) and Academic Research Fleet (ARF), it is ideal for biological, chemical, physical, and geological oceanographic studies in estuarine and continental shelf waters through the southeastern U.S. Atlantic and Gulf coasts.
With the capacity to host up to 16 scientists, the vessel is well suited for large-scale missions. This spring, the R/V Savannah was outfitted with a new flow-through system featuring more than a dozen instruments that continuously measure key biogeochemical parameters on the ocean’s surface as the ship travels. A corresponding online platform streams the live data to scientists, students, and technicians both aboard the ship and on shore.
