As the coronavirus, or COVID-19, continues to spread throughout the country, health officials, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, are encouraging people to stick to the tried-and-true method of handwashing to help protect themselves. Twenty seconds of scrubbing with soap and water is recommended after eating and after using the bathroom, sneezing, coughing, blowing your nose or touching your face.
Twenty seconds—or how long it takes to sing through the alphabet—can seem like a lengthy period of time to wash your hands, but adding a catchy tune can make the time pass more quickly.
Here are several suggestions with roughly 20-second choruses to consider to sing while you scrub.
Handwashing chorus: “The love shack is a little old place where / We can get together / Love shack baby / A love shack baby / Love shack, baby love shack / Love shack, baby love shack / Love shack, baby love shack / Love shack, baby love shack”
Handwashing chorus: “She wore a raspberry beret / The kind you find in a secondhand store / Raspberry beret / And if it was warm she wouldn’t wear much more / Raspberry beret / I think I love her”
Handwashing chorus: “Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene / I’m begging of you please don’t take my man / Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene / Please don’t take him just because you can”
Handwashing chorus: “It’s gonna take a lot to drag me away from you / There’s nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do / I bless the rains down in Africa / Gonna take some time to do the things we never had”
Handwashing chorus: “Baby it’s you / You’re the one I love / You’re the one I need / You’re the only one I see / Come on baby it’s you / You’re the one that gives your all / You’re the one I can always call / When I need to make everything stop / Finally you put my love on top”
Handwashing chorus: “It’s been a hard day’s night / And I’ve been working like a dog / It’s been a hard day’s night / I should be sleeping like a log / But when I get home to you / I’ll find the things that you do / Will make me feel alright”
(Disclaimer: “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” was a close second, but not a message we want to encourage at this time.)
Handwashing chorus: “It’s like rain on your wedding day / It’s a free ride when you’ve already paid / It’s the good advice that you just didn’t take / And who would’ve thought it figured”
Handwashing chorus: “So I say / Dance for me, dance for me, dance for me, oh, oh, oh / I’ve never seen anybody do the things you do before / They say move for me, move for me, move for me, ay, ay ay / And when you’re done I’ll make you do it all again”
