Startup 101

Fridays, Jan. 22 – Feb. 5, 2021, 11am – 1pm 

Startup 101 is a three-part series that addresses the varying skills and information entrepreneurs will need on their journey to create a successful startup company. Anyone interested in launching or growing a startup, or gaining insight into the startup process, is encouraged to attend. The Spring 2021 sessions will explore startups during a pandemic (Jan. 22), corporate venture capital (Jan. 22), and UGA’s new express licensing program (Feb. 5). Registration is available through Eventbrite.  

UGA I-Corps

Mondays, Feb. 1 – Mar. 22, 2021, 5pm – 7pm

UGA Innovation Corps, or I-Corps, is the STEM-focused program funded by the National Science Foundation that helps UGA researchers translate their technologies out of the lab and into the marketplace. UGA I-Corps teams receive entrepreneurial training during the six-week accelerator as well as funding to kickstart their customer discovery process to help determine whether a viable market exists for their technology. Submit your application by Wed., Jan. 27.

Innovation District Seminar Series

First Wednesday of every month, Feb. 3 – April 7, 2021, 5:30pm – 7pm

The Innovation District Seminar Series is a speaker series designed to foster innovation, entrepreneurship, creativity and collaboration, and to promote greater synergy among members of the university’s research, innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystems. This monthly forum brings together faculty, staff, students and alumni, along with local entrepreneurs, community members, service providers and industry representatives, to discuss and strengthen UGA’s culture of innovation. The Spring 2021 sessions will feature a quick pitch competition (Feb. 3), non-profit Athensmade (March 3), and an industry innovation roundtable (April 7). Innovation Bootcamp

Thursdays, Feb. 18 – April 8, 2021, 4:30pm – 7:30pm

The Innovation Bootcamp is a focused eight-week program that delivers cohort-specific training in order to equip attendees with the key skills needed for success in an innovative, entrepreneurial environment. Participants will meet weekly to learn firsthand about the basics of commercialization and targeted skill building, as well as receive one-on-one support from experienced coaches and successful entrepreneurs. The Spring 2021 session, Innovation Bootcamp: Women’s Entrepreneurship for Graduate Students in STEM, has been designed specifically to examine the unique challenges faced by female entrepreneurs who are also graduate students in STEM fields. This program is open to all UGA graduate students in STEM fields. Submit your application by Feb. 2. 

Innovation Gateway Office Hours 

Tuesdays, 10am-11am & Wednesdays, 9am-10am

Innovation Gateway is hosting weekly office hours to better serve the UGA community and answer questions from faculty, students and staff relating to research commercialization and innovation at UGA. All members of the UGA community are invited to attend these Q&A sessions to learn more about intellectual property, innovation, technology commercialization, invention disclosures and startup formation at UGA. Zoom links will be posted to the UGA Master Calendar. 

Innovation District Showcase

Thursday, April 14, 2021, 5:30pm – 7pm

Explore and celebrate Athens Startup Week and UGA’s success in spurring innovation and bringing scientific discoveries to the marketplace. Hear firsthand from UGA researchers, innovators and entrepreneurs who turned their research breakthroughs into new products and businesses that drive economic development. Registration will be available through Eventbrite.

UGA Entrepreneurship Program 

The UGA Entrepreneurship Program is a collaborative entrepreneurship initiative, housed in the Terry College of Business, serving UGA and our community. Their goal is to develop the entrepreneurial spirit of all interested students at UGA.
