January 2020 Innovation Gateway Highlights

The second of four events in Innovation Gateway’s annual Technology Transfer Educational Series was held last month and featured a presentation on the various resources and services available to UGA entrepreneurs and startup companies.

On Feb. 12, the third installment of the series will address the basics of how to protect intellectual property generated through research.
  • Mark Sirgo and Steve Stice, chief executive officer and chief scientific officer of UGA startup Aruna Bio, respectively, presented at the 31st Annual Piper Jaffray Healthcare Conference in New York City. Aruna Bio, also appointed James Paskavitz, MD, as vice president of research and development.
  • The Innovation District Seminar Series in December explored the startup ecosystem in Georgia and featured presentations by Athens-Clarke County Economic Development, Advanced Technology Development Center, Georgia Research Alliance, Georgia’s Centers of Innovation and the Northeast Georgia Regional Commission. Please join us on Feb. 5 for a UGA Signature Lecture examining “profeneurs,” or professor entrepreneurs.
  • Yajun Yan, a professor in the College of Engineering and co-founder of UGA startup BiotecEra Inc., was featured in UGA’s Focus on Faculty.
  • Innovation Gateway executed the following agreements:
    • One license agreement with Absolute Antibody for monoclonal antibodies against actin-related proteins (ARP) developed by Richard Meagher, Muthugapatti Kandasamy and Elizabeth McKinney, UGA genetics
    • One license agreement with Absolute Antibody for a monoclonal antibody against Lewis(x)/LNFPIII-glycan developed by Donald Harn, UGA infectious diseases
    • Multiple testing and option agreements for ornamental selections developed by John Ruter, UGA horticulture
    • Multiple testing and option agreements for blueberry selections developed by Scott NeSmith, UGA horticulture
    • One non-exclusive license agreement for a pecan cultivar developed by Patrick Conner, UGA horticulture
    • Two non-exclusive license agreements for antibody-drug conjugation technologies developed by Geert-Jan Boons, Complex Carbohydrate Research Center
