This year, at least five (5) scholarships are available. The recipient will receive $9,000 for the 2026-27 academic year, followed by up to two additional years of funding. This scholarship is exclusively an add-on award and is NOT to be used to subsidize an existing UGA stipend. Additionally, the recipient of the ARCS Foundation Scholarship, must adhere to the following responsibilities (see below) to remain in good standing with the organization.<\/p>\n<h3>Application Overview<\/h3>\n<p>The UGA-ARCS application process occurs in two stages.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phase One<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>April 23 &#8211; June 6, 2026: General applications are accepted from eligible UGA programs (see list below).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phase Two<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>July 6, 2026: Finalists are identified by the selection committee and invited to submit a short video regarding their research (details below).<\/p>\n<p>July 24, 2026: Application videos are due.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\n<h4>Eligibility Criteria<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>currently pursuing a PhD degree in either science, engineering, or medical research (complete list below)<\/li>\n<li>no less than 3 years remaining in current doctoral program (must be verified by major professor)<\/li>\n<li>U.S. citizenship<\/li>\n<li>GPA of 3.5 or above<\/li>\n<li>enrolled full-time (minimum 12 hours\/semester) for both fall and spring semesters<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\n<h4>Application Materials<\/h4>\n<p>The nominating faculty member must complete the online application and upload the documents below as one complete packet in the following order:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a letter of nomination which includes an evaluation\/recommendation from faculty mentor<\/li>\n<li>a second letter of recommendation from graduate coordinator or additional faculty member<\/li>\n<li>a 300-600 word research statement (from the student) outlining their work and its potential impact on their discipline<\/li>\n<li>nominated student\u2019s curriculum vitae<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\n<h4>Scholar Responsibilities<\/h4>\n<p>By accepting the ARCS scholarship, the student agrees to the following stipulations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>complete all award paperwork (acceptance forms, bio sketch, headshot, registration)<\/li>\n<li>maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the duration of the fellowship<\/li>\n<li>attend the 2026 Scholar Awards Celebration in Atlanta\u2014in person event on November 11, 2026<\/li>\n<li>give a 3-minute presentation on your research at the ARCS-Atlanta site visit at UGA in spring 2027<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_tta_accordion shape=&#8221;square&#8221; active_section=&#8221;999&#8243; no_fill=&#8221;true&#8221; collapsible_all=&#8221;true&#8221; el_class=&#8221;accordionResearch&#8221;][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Eligible UGA PhD Programs (Revised May 2024)&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1588866213025-01abe14a-0c6e&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\n<ul>\n<li>Animal &amp; Dairy Science<\/li>\n<li>Biochemistry &amp; Molecular Biology<\/li>\n<li>Bioinformatics<\/li>\n<li>Cellular Biology<\/li>\n<li>Chemical, Materials &amp; Biomedical Engineering<\/li>\n<li>Chemistry<\/li>\n<li>Comparative Biomedical Sciences<\/li>\n<li>Ecology<\/li>\n<li>Environmental Health Sciences<\/li>\n<li>Genetics<\/li>\n<li>Infectious Diseases<\/li>\n<li>Integrative Physiology &amp; Pharmacology Medicine<\/li>\n<li>Microbiology<\/li>\n<li>Neuroscience<\/li>\n<li>Nutritional Science<\/li>\n<li>Pharmaceutical &amp; Biomedical Sciences<\/li>\n<li>Plant Biology<\/li>\n<li>Regenerative Bioscience<\/li>\n<li>Toxicology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][\/vc_tta_accordion][vc_column_text]\n<div id=\"ultimate-heading-53305eb42afc9f230\" class=\"uvc-heading ult-adjust-bottom-margin ultimate-heading-53305eb42afc9f230 uvc-2033 \" data-hspacer=\"no_spacer\" data-halign=\"left\">\n<div class=\"uvc-main-heading ult-responsive\" data-ultimate-target=\".uvc-heading.ultimate-heading-53305eb42afc9f230 h3\" data-responsive-json-new=\"{&quot;font-size&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;line-height&quot;:&quot;&quot;}\">\n<h3>Applicant Video<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"vc_empty_space\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n<p>Student applicants will be notified if they are being officially considered as a finalist for the award. Upon notification, finalists will have several weeks to compose a brief video regarding their research.\u00a0<em>For additional questions regarding this aspect of the application process, please see our FAQ page and\/or contact the ARCS Coordinator directly.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The short video (2-3 minutes max) outlining your research project should touch upon the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A description of your project<\/li>\n<li>How your project will advance your field<\/li>\n<li>Why someone outside of your field should care about your research<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You should orient your video toward\u00a0an educated, but general (i.e., non-specialist) audience. Please make your presentation accessible and free of field-specific jargon and acronyms. Principally, this is an opportunity to convey the importance of your work, so please focus your efforts on the clarity of your message while also articulating your own enthusiasm for your research.<\/p>\n<p>Students are asked to upload their video to YouTube and submit the video link to the ARCS Award Coordinator. Instructions can be found\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifewire.com\/how-to-upload-videos-to-youtube-4142008\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>. High importance is placed on the approachability and enthusiasm of the applicant\u2019s message.
